Wrestling had a successful weekend in their inaugural EIL Championship. The Wheeler team finished fifth overall out of 10 teams in their first season, which included the following individual highlights from respective weight classes -- Brooks Kay ’28 (fourth place), Gus Despines ’27 (fourth place), Jack Morris ’28 (fourth place), and Connor Simeone ’25 (second place).
Swimming celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a tri-meet against Milton Academy and Thayer Academy. Ella Dibari ’25, Maizy Johnston ’25, Selina Kao ’25, Catalina Smith ’25, Zoe Tyrrell ’25, Sam Ackroyd ’25, Edan Davis ’25, Henry Nathan ’25, Jackson Page ’25, Christian Santos ’25, and James Wert ’25 enjoyed their celebration with competitive races. The boys defeated Thayer and Milton, while the girls lost by a narrow margin to both schools. On Wednesday, the Warriors traveled to St. George’s and pushed a talented Dragons team to the brink. The boys lost 92-72 and the girls lost 101-81, but it was great preparation for the EIL/ISL Championships coming up on Sunday, Feb. 23.
Squash captured their fourth win of the season with a 7-2 win over St. Andrew’s on Wednesday. Miles Harrison ’26 defeated his opponent 3-0, and Max Eldert ’30 and Gunnar Eggertsson ’26 walked away winners after battling through tough five-game matches. The team celebrates their seniors tomorrow at Agawam Hunt when Beaver Country Day comes to town. Match time is slated for 4pm.
Indoor Track travels to Phillips Andover Academy this weekend for the winter NEPSTA Invitational. The team has had a wonderful season with multiple PRs and school records attained. Boys Basketball fell to Lincoln High School at the buzzer on Monday in an exciting non-league game. The Warriors took the lead with 14 seconds to go on a basket by King Tiah ’27 before the visitors made a shot in the lane as time expired. The team was led by four double-digit scorers - Tiah, Drew Herren ’28, EJ Carvalho ’25, and Mason Cocks ’25. The team is back in action this Friday against the top-ranked team in the EIL, Lexington Christian Academy. Game time is scheduled for 4:30pm in Madden Gym. Be sure to come cheer on the Warriors before starting the four-day weekend!
Girls Basketball made a fourth-quarter run at Newton Country Day on Wednesday and cut the home team’s lead to four with one minute to go. Unfortunately, the Warriors were unable to complete the comeback and fell 51-42. The squad travels to Lexington Christian Academy on Friday night to take on the Lions in another EIL contest.
