Girls Basketball dropped a trio of games to Newton Country Day, Pingree School, and Pomfret School over the last week, but Amaya Womack ’27 has emerged as a leader for the young Warriors team. Womack led the Warriors with 18 points and 9 rebounds against Newton and followed that up with a near double-double at Pingree. The coaches report, “Amaya has stepped in and been a presence guarding the opposing team’s strongest post players. She has embodied our team values -- be a warrior, stay disciplined, and be a communicator.”
Boys Basketball won two of three over the last week with Class C wins over Chapel Hill Chauncey Hall (58-47) and Worcester Academy (64-58) and a loss in a non-league game at Bryant University. The team hosts Berwick Academy on Friday at Madden Gym with tip-off slated for 4pm. The game is part of a Friday Night Lights double-header with the girls team who hosts Berwick Academy at 5:30pm.
Squash dropped a 9-0 decision against a talented Concord Academy team on Wednesday. However, Coach Alija Hogan shares that, “Lily Alarcon [’28] has done a tremendous job in her role as team captain. She speaks wonderfully during our team introductions. Max Eldert [’30] has also done a great job stepping up to play in two varsity matches.” The team’s next scheduled match will be against Portsmouth Abbey on Monday, Jan. 27.
Swimming opened the 2025 calendar year with a competitive meet at Dexter-Southfield last Friday. The girls fell narrowly by a score of 55-33, and the boys topped their opponents 54-31. The Warriors host a quad meet this Friday at PODS as Berwick Academy, Bancroft School, and Dana Hall School come to town.
Track recently competed in the World Trophies Invitational in Providence. Anaya Wilson ’26 threw a new PR to break her own school record in the shot. Autumn Allen ’27 broke the school record in the long jump, placing third overall with a jump of 17’10.25. Lastly, Maddie Bryan ’28 and Parker Goldman ’27 established school records by being the FIRST Wheeler student-athletes to compete successfully in pole vault in an indoor meet!
Wrestling, who came into the 2025 calendar year fresh off the program’s first team win against Chapel Hill Chauncy Hall, was back in action this past Wednesday with a match against Concord Academy and Phillips Andover Academy. Team captain Conor Simeone came away with an impressive win on the day. The team will have a brief break during exams before hitting the mat again at Landmark for a quad meet on Saturday, Jan. 25.
