Jack Mancini ´20 tossed in a career-high 42 points in a 92-77 win over Shea Tuesday night. The senior sniper became only the 4th Warrior to eclipse the 40 point mark and the first since Graham Lynch ´16 netted 41 against Hebron Academy on February 21, 2015.
Mancini, who is also an All-State golfer and member of the Warriors 2019 RIIL State Championship team, is averaging 22.4 points per game, which places him 4th in Rhode Island on the scoring leader board. His 6 three-pointers on Tuesday night brings his season tally to 91 three-pointers, which is tops in Rhode Island and second-most in a single season by a Wheeler boys basketball player. During the contest against Shea, Mancini passed his coach, Sean Kelly ´02, for second-most in a season (89) and he is just 3 away from passing Tim Holt ´18, a record Holt set at 93 during the Warriors’ 2017-2018 championship season.
Winners of four in a row; including victories over 1st place Westerly and 3rd place Cranston West, as well as a 28 point win over Moses Brown, boys basketball has been on a roll as of late. In addition to Mancini´s efforts, the Warriors have featured stellar play from a trio of sophomores (Travis Cobain, Jake Faulise, and Clay Johnston), a pair of freshmen (Wyatt Greenberg and Isaiah Smith-Johnson), junior Evan Harrison, and senior defensive-specialist, Paul Eyo.
The Warriors will be back in action Monday night against the Prout School for Senior Night, where four seniors - Arvind Sridhar, Lucas Kranseler, Eyo, and Mancini, will be honored. Tip-off is 6 pm at the Wheeler Farm.
