Just a year ago, Bryant University’s Turf Complex provided the backdrop for Wheeler Field Hockey’s first back-to-back State Championships in over 40 years. It marked the second consecutive year that the Warriors defeated their rivals at the Lincoln School on Rhode Island’s biggest stage. However, on Sunday, November 3rd, the Warriors fell short of capturing the highly-coveted three-peat with a 3-0 loss to their longtime East Side rivals.

The Warriors, 13-1 in league play, 15-4 overall, captured the regular season RIIL Division II crown, and are well-represented in the postseason awards department. Olivia Bush ‘20, who will continue her playing career at Bucknell University next fall, was voted Division II Player of the Year. Joining her on RIIL 1st Team All-Division were Margot Bernardo ‘21 and Annabella Clyne ‘21, while 2nd Team honors went to Chloe Cazzani ‘20 and Victoria Wassouf ‘21. An Honorable Mention nod went to Yasmine Mechrefe ‘20 as well.

All five Wheeler senior student-athletes on the field hockey roster -- Olivia Bush, Maddie Lee, Yasmine Mechrefe, Molly O’Hara, and Hannah Zevon, also landed on the Rhode Island Field Hockey Coaches Asociation’s All-Academic Team.

Although Wheeler will graduate an incredibly skilled and successful senior class, Coach Marti Kane’s program has high hopes for next season with the return of Bernardo and Clyne, as well as a JV team who were the winners of this year’s  RIIL Division II JV State Tournament.
